We realized that you are shining gently and no one saw it before: you leave small golden footsteps and the faint scent of lilac in most rooms

So to make up for what we’ve missed we took you here to this televised cliff in Ireland

Where a handsome slightly flushed beautiful person with big eyes will give you an award as their hair’s blown back in the grey emerald wind

It turns out that everyone secretly really thought you were cool but rarely spoke to you for very long at a time and instead asked the usual boring golf-work questions (while always wondering at the narrow paths in your forest leading off to that grand wilderness you call yourself)

So, yes, we found you out - smile big! and your terrific toothbrush thoughts, your amazing acne routine, your rare vocal wellspring, your life, simply, and we want to be friends with you, or to live as you, or something

Or maybe we just wanted a break from our mediocre skin care and shower songs

Or maybe we just wanted to smile kindly at your shock awe gratitude arrogance vanity desperate- hunger of slowly realizing the gift of our attention.

Thank you. Really thank you for being so - so - so vulnerable. So, so, vulnerable. For us.

But it is time for you to leave this cliff in Ireland and go back to Peacham VT or Johannesburg or a nameless place or Watertown MA because this wind-blown Irish beauty must present the next award

Please go back to the darkness of your lights-off room and go back to checking your phone semi regularly in case we forgot something else about the way you glow or in case we realized we never should’ve said goodbye.

which is possible!

And in case you are only remembered by the reaching grasping ground

Then you too should remember that we were just roving past you, that we were just horses galloping over the meadow of your self, that our attention was a passing storm, that our friendship too will die, that even we will pass and splinter soon, like bees scattered by bears, lonely wasps searching for a final home for our separate stingers

It’s ok to lay down on your pillow now

If your face is hot from the big day grab a wet washcloth and lay it on your forehead

Close your eyes and melt into your bed

But keep your phone face up

We might call you back
